FSP
Feststellungsprüfung (FSP) is short for “Examination to determine the suitability of applicants with foreign educational certificates (“Bildungsausländer”) to take up studies at universities in the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG)”.
There are many international students wishing to start their studies in Germany, but not all foreign school-leaving certificates are recognised as university entrance qualification Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (HZB), because the education systems are different.
Without the HZB students are not able to enter directly into the German university system. The FSP exam enables access to a course of study at a German university.
Please visit the DAAD or anabin websites to check if you are eligible for the direct entry into the university.
Many students are taking the preparation course at Studienkolleg to improve the level of German language and other subjects, as well as to adapt to the new educational system and life in Germany before their university studies.
What are the FSP requirements?
To be admitted to the FSP exam, you must achieve the appropriate preliminary marks.
That means at least grade 4 in all subjects and a maximum of grade 5 in one subject.
The grading system in Germany is 1-6. 1 is the highest/best score.
All main subjects have a written FSP exam. You must also take at least 1 oral exam.
FSP test duration (in min.)
German 240
Math 180
Physics (TI-course only) 180
Economics/Business Administration (WW-course only) 180
Oral exam 30
Where is the FSP held?
The written and oral exams take place at the Studienkolleg in Leipzig. The examiners from the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences come to Leipzig.
When the FSP is held?
In July and January.
When do I get my certificate?
You will receive a certificate from the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences after the oral exam.
What shall I do if I do not pass the FSP?
You can retake the FSP only once.
You can be exempted from repeating the subjects, in which you have grades 1-3. You do not have to pay again for these subjects. Therefore, you can concentrate fully on your problem subject and attend classes one more time.
